A three-day advocacy and media engagement workshop for Women Peace Builders (WPBs) and Youth Peace Builders (YPBs) was held in Kaduna state 25th to 27th October 2022, for Kano and Kaduna participants. A second workshop was held in Plateau 9th to 11th November 20222 for Plateau and Benue participants. There was a total of 67 participant in both workshops including 37 women and 35 youth. Participants of both workshops Included the WPS and Peace Promotion Fellows (PPFs) trained in our first phase of the project, community members passionate and involved with advocacy, Local Government Information Officers, and members of other professional groups like International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), and National Council of Women Societies (NCWS). The workshops focused on fostering and maintaining good working relationships with various stakeholder groups and guiding YPBs and WPBs to co-develop detailed advocacy and awareness strategies in their action plans, which they will roll out over the course of the project.
The workshops also aimed to shift power dynamics, using strategies drawn from movement building, social behavior change, and awareness raising, to inform and deliver tailored and coordinated advocacy activities in the project LGAs. They focused on power mapping, media engagement, identifying allies, and developing advocacy and behavior change goals linked to tailor Local Action Plan (LAPs) to respond to the local contexts. They aimed to increase citizen buy-in for more inclusive and effective community peace and security platforms.
